Boniface Slowhaircare was born out of love, memory and a tribute to my Congolese family whom I never knew, but of whom I think back with love and gratitude. It is a story deeply rooted in my history, inspired by the wisdom and love of my great-grandfather Boniface (pronounced the French way as \u2018Bonifas\u2019), and by the memories that my mother cherishes of her family, despite being separated by a turbulent time.<\/span><\/p>

My mother was born in Lubumbashi, Congo, when the country was still a Belgian colony. In 1946, when she was still just a child, she was transferred to an orphanage in Sav\u00e9, Rwanda, where children of mixed race often lost their identity. Her name and date of birth were erased and replaced, and she lived far away from her family, without knowing her own story. Even so, there were a few loving visits from her grandfather Boniface, who gave her warmth and affection at every meeting.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In 1960, during the independence of Congo, all children of mixed race were brought to Belgium. This meant a definitive separation from her Congolese family and from that moment on she only had her memories of them left. But it was her grandfather Boniface who is most deeply etched in her memory \u2013 the man who gave her love, despite the distance and circumstances.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The brand Boniface Slow Haircare was born from those memories. It is my way of paying tribute to my mother and my Congolese family.\u00a0
